How to install RankSpirit ?
Download RankSpirit. Launch it and follow instructions. All the installation process is automatic and very simple to follow. If your encounter any problem with our download page, you can use this link >> DIRECT DOWNLOAD << or download our zip archive
Is it compatible with a non-dedicated server?
- Yes. Your host only needs to support PHP and must allow the creation of a folder having an authorization of writing.
Is there a software to install onto the server?
- No. But you'll have to modify all the pages of your site. This is quite quick and simple because RankSpirit can do this operation automatically (with a safeguard copy of the original pages). It can also restore automatically your pages. Get details about the code installed into the pages.
Does my computer need to stay on and connected to get the results?
- No. Informations about visits are stored on your server until RankSpirit read them.
- RankSpirit read these infos when you decide to. It does'nt need to run permanently or to stay connected.
If I have to travel, how will I consult my statistics?
RankSpirit works perfectly on an USB key. Copy its folder on your key and enjoy your trip!
I know that RankSpirit does'nt force me to put a logo on my pages, but I would like to put one to support you
We will obviously be very happy! You will find in our "links page" a text, a banner and a small logo which you can use for that type of purpose. If your site is intended for webmasters, do not hesitate to propose us a link exchange.
What is the code which must be installed into my pages?
The informations analyzed by RankSpirit result partly from a small code written in Javascript which you will have to include in each one of your pages between the <Body> and </Body> tags.
This operation can be automatically executed by the "Installation" command of RankSpirit.

After the installation of RankSpirit, I have problems with the server parameters and I get the message “Unable to connect to specified FTP server. Please verify your parameters!!”.
The server parameters typing requires a great attention to avoid any problem. To be sure to not forget anything, compare the parameters you type in RankSpirit with those which you use in your usual FTP client (FileZilla, FTP Commander, DropUpLoad or other). Check the address of your FTP server by taking in account the following remarks:
- Some FTP clients ask you to enter separately the address of the server and the name of your site's folder. RankSpirit requires to enter all that in one single line as: server_adresse/folder_name. You will have, for example: ftp.mysite.com/html or ftp.mysite.com/www. The documents of your site are not usually located on the first level of your server. The majority of the host deliver a FTP site including two folders: the “cgi-bin” folder and the “HTML” (or "WWW") folder into which you have to copy your pages. This is only an example: you have to know the exact address of your site (including the name of the folder in which it resides) to be able to parameterize RankSpirit.
- When you click on the “Test” button in the "Server" window, you must get the list of all the site's pages. If not, your parameters are not correct. You can also use the “Open the FTP with your navigator” button to check your parameters.
If those informations don't fix your problem, do not hesitate to contact us by email. Please provide us the maximum of details about your attempts and send us a copy of the error messages which you got. The experiment also shows that some screenshots can give us a great help to fix your problem.
RankSpirit works well, but I do not see the robots visits.
The "Rankspirit code" installed in your pages is written in javascript and not in PHP. We made this choice to stay compatible with a wide variety of sites. The only page written in PHP is the "log.php" page which belongs to the list of elements added to your site by the automatic installor of RankSpirit. Because of this choice, the robots will only be detected if they try to read the "log.php" page. To be certain that their visits are correctly detected, you have two solutions:
- put a link from your "index" page towards the "log.php" page. You can place it in a small image to make it invisible for your visitors. It is what we did on this site and this solution works perfectlyl.
- put a link coming from each one of your pages towards the "log.php page" (this link can also be placed in an image to remain invisible). This solution is even more radical than the preceding one.
The system actually used by RankSpirit to know the robots visits is not conceived to be the most powerful as possible. In many cases, it indicates the visit without specifying the path followed by the robot. Information which it brings back is however largely sufficient for the majority of the users.
Some Websurfers have deactivated the Javascript option of their navigator. Which consequence does it have on my statistics?
As for all the other statistics systems using Javascript, these visitors will not be taken in account by RankSpirit. By luck, this “defect of counting” relates to only 1% of the visitors and does not introduce significant variation in the global results. The only alternative would be to propose a script entirely written in PHP, which would not be compatible with HTML sites (or not in a “simple” way). This choice thus rises from a compromise.
I preferred to install the code of RankSpirit by hand (by copying/pasting). That works well for my site, but I do not have any information about my subdomains.
At first, please notice that there is not any valid reason to install the code manually rather than using the automatic installor. This installor proposes a safeguard copy of your site before modifying it and this operation is perfectly sure. If you absolutely want to do it by yourself, be attentive with the line: LConc = '<img width= " 0 " height= " 0 " border= " 0 " src = 'log.php? += “&hl=” + LDate.getHours () + “X” + LDate.getMinutes () + “X” + LDate.getSeconds (); The value corresponding to “src =” must be adapted to the level where the page comprising this code is located. If this page is in a subfolder of your site, you will have to replace “log.php” by”../log.php".

RankSpirit seems to work well, but I don't see (or very little) access by the search engines.
That is without any doubt because your site is built with a “frames” system . With such a site, each page presented to the Net surfer is actually made up of several HTML pages. A design of this type makes problems with all the statistics systems. You can recover the number of seen pages and number of visitors, but you will not have the complete list of refferers, nor the complete list of the keywords used to reach your site.
I have a dynamic site and my URLs contain a great number of parameters. The consultation of my statistics is uneasy because these URLs are too long to be seen in the windows.
RankSpirit proposes a function which ables you to simplify the presentation of your URLs. In the "server" window, click on “Dynamic site” and enter the list of the parameters which identify your pages. From now, the contents of these parameters will be printed in the place of the complete URLs.
The statistics delivered by RankSpirit do not correspond with those delivered by “Awstat” or “Urchin”.
Awstat, Urchin, as all the other statistics systems using the “Apache” log file, register the accesses to all the resources of your server (including the images). RankSpirit register only the human visitors who have really consulted your pages. These different approaches can bring very important variations (from 200% to more!) in the delivered results.
